Elements and Performance Criteria
- Operate wool opening equipment
- All necessary settings and preparation for equipment operation are identified and assessed in accordance with specifications and workplace standard procedures
- Work area around machine or equipment is cleaned and maintained to meet workplace and OHS practices
- Bales of greasy wool are identified for processing and located
- Opening equipment is started and operated
- Equipment is stopped or shut down in accordance with all OHS practices and workplace standard procedures
- Blending is assessed according to batch instructions
- Carry out operator maintenance
- Minor running problems are identified, corrected by the operator where appropriate, and reported in accordance with workplace and equipment manufacturer procedures
- Major machine and equipment or product faults are reported
- Minor maintenance and cleaning are performed in accordance with manufacturer specifications and workplace procedures
- Monitor opening process
- Product quality standards for all stages of the process are identified and interpreted
- Visual inspection of plant and wool is routinely conducted
- Non-conforming outcomes are recognised, isolated and reported
- Environmental requirements and procedures concerned with waste, pollution and recycling of materials are correctly applied at all stages of the process
- Communicate production information
- Records and other documentation required by workplace procedures are clearly and accurately completed
- Information from other operators, shifts and supervisory personnel regarding production status and problems are accurately interpreted by the operator
- Information regarding production status and problems are accurately communicated to other operators, shifts and supervisory personnel
